Assembly & setup
keyboard_arrow_downAssembly is quick and easy: a step-by-step guide comes with your rocking chair and takes you through it.
Description
keyboard_arrow_downThe wings flare outwards at the top rather than turning in, so the shell widens where a head would rest and the outline reads as a curve rather than a box. The covering is a soft off-white with a fine irregular grain, matt, with no sheen anywhere on it. Below the seat, slim dark rods drop to two pale wood runners cut in a long, shallow curve. This nursing rocking chair is doing two things at once, and the wings are only half of it.
Sitting upright, the wings stand beside the head without touching it. Push back and the geometry changes: as the backrest tilts, those same panels come round to meet the head from behind, and the gap that was beside the ears closes. The seat is deep, and the padding is firm enough to hold its edge, so the body stays where it lands instead of sliding forward as the angle opens.
The tilt has to go somewhere. When the back opens, the top of the shell travels backwards, and the runners take their own arc on top of that, so the wall behind is met twice over. A hand's width is a starting point, tested with the back fully open rather than upright. At the front nothing extends, so the floor there stays as it was.
The finish was settled in advance: an off-white shell on pale timber, with the dark rods between them. In daylight the surface stays flat and the grain only shows within arm's reach, which is what keeps a shape this size from reading as heavy. The wood is left visible, so the runners register as a separate object beneath the shell rather than a continuation of it.
An off-white at this scale shows contact before it shows dirt: the top of each wing, where hands grip to stand, and the front edge of the seat. The routine is the same for all of them. A soft brush across the grain lifts the surface, a vacuum with the brush head takes dust out of the seams, and marks are blotted with a barely damp cloth. The wood asks for a dry one.
Two comparisons place it quickly: the chairs bought for feeding, which answer the same hours, and the chairs that rock on wood, which share the movement and nothing else.
A fixed wing chair offers one relationship between head and wings, decided when it was built. This one has two. Upright, the wings frame the shoulders and leave the head clear; tilted, they close in behind it, and the seat angle opens with them. Nothing is added to move between the two, and nothing is left standing on the floor afterwards. The frame is solid wood, rated to 150 kg.
It works where a chair is used for stretches rather than minutes: a nursery corner beside the cot, a bedroom by the window, and equally a living room, where the shape reads as an armchair rather than nursery equipment. What a fixed wing chair keeps from you is the choice of angle once you are already sitting.
The wings are what gets noticed. What the back does is what gets used.
Two questions about the shape and the movement, rather than this chair in particular.
The shape gives three things a plain armchair does not: sides that enclose the head when the body leans back, arms set wide enough to keep elbows away from the ribs, and a back that carries past the shoulders. Whether that suits depends on how long the sitting lasts and how upright it stays.
The panels at the sides. A standard recliner opens the back and leaves the head clear at the edges; a winged one keeps the sides closed as the angle changes, so the enclosure holds at every point. The mechanism itself is the same idea in both, and the wings double as something to grip when standing.
Care & cleaning
keyboard_arrow_downCare instructions are on the label attached to each chair. As a general rule, spot-clean with a damp cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners unless the label says otherwise.
On teddy and bouclé fabrics, a soft brush lifts the pile again where you sit.

Materials & finish
The fabric you sit on every evening is the part that ages first. That is where we start: upholstery that keeps its look through daily use, foam dense enough to hold its shape, and a frame that does not creak after a winter.
Everything listed below comes from this chair's own specification, not from a general description.
