The rocking is really smooth
No juddering and no noise. It is genuinely relaxing rather than fidgety.

The head cushion is buttoned on at the top, a small pad sitting above the channels below it. The back is drawn into long vertical channels that carry down into the seat, and the cream surface is smooth throughout, with a low sheen that shows where each channel crests. Underneath, a tan band wraps the base and meets thin black legs. That cushion is what marks this rocking chair as a seat for long stretches.
The back rises past the shoulders and keeps a slight curve, so the spine meets it along its length rather than at one point. The head cushion sits at the top of that curve, at the height the head lands once the body stops holding itself up. The padding is deep and the seat is deep with it, which is why the sitting position is reclined without anything being reclined. Below, two curved runners give a long, slow arc.
The difference shows after the first twenty minutes. A back that stops at the shoulders leaves the head unsupported, and once attention drifts there is nowhere for it to rest. Here it goes back and stays there, which turns an hour in a chair into an hour of not moving. Nothing has to be adjusted for that, because there is nothing to adjust.
Two tones, and the surface behaves differently in each. In the brown the channels read as shadow, the seams going dark while the crests hold the light, so the quilting stays legible across a room. The grey flattens that reading: the gap between crest and hollow narrows, and the shape comes forward instead of the pattern. Against the pale wood of the runners the brown sits close, and the grey stands apart.
What each shows in use follows from that. A pale grey keeps dust at the seams and registers a hand passing over the crests; the brown hides both and shows crushing instead, where the padding has been sat flat. The routine is the same either way: a vacuum with the brush head along the channels, a barely damp cloth on marks worked inwards, and nothing wet left to sit.
Two comparisons place it quickly: the chairs with a considered outline, where the shape carries the piece, and the seats that carry on moving, which share the motion and little else.
An adjustable lounger asks for a decision before it can be used: which angle, which notch, whether the last setting still suits. This one has none of that. The angle is built into the frame and the head cushion is already where it needs to be, so the only thing left is to sit down. It also means nothing loosens with use, since nothing moves except the runners. The frame is solid wood and steel, rated to 150 kg.
It works where a chair is meant to be occupied rather than passed: beside a window with something worth looking at, at the end of a room, next to a lamp and a low table. In a hallway it would be wasted. What a low-backed chair cannot give is a place for the head, and that is the whole difference over an hour.
Nothing here folds, tilts or extends. The chair does one thing, for as long as anyone stays in it.
Two questions about what a tall back and a head cushion actually do, rather than what they are made of.
A seat built for staying rather than for sitting up. The back is raked further than on a dining or accent chair, the seat is deeper, and the whole thing sits lower to the floor. The point is the angle between those three: it puts the body somewhere between upright and lying down, and keeps it there.
Where the support stops. A low back ends around the shoulder blades and leaves the shoulders, neck and head clear of the frame. A high back carries past all three, which changes what happens when someone leans back rather than how they sit upright. Below shoulder height, the two feel much the same.
